2010 Awards Night

cocktail invite 2012Approximately 100 members and guests gathered at the Melbourne High School Old Boys Association Scoreboard Pavilion on Thursday December 2nd for the annual end of year THC function.

Members and guests were also addressed by the senior coach Damien Hardwick who was once again very forthright in his assessment of 2010 and what he expects of the playing group in 2011. Players Alex Rance and Shane Edwards were in attendance and filled us in on the intensive training camp just completed in New Zealand. President elect, Robert Edgley summed up the Tommy Hafey Club achievements for 2010 and outlined the program being put into place for 2011.

In a relaxed atmosphere Tommy presented the Tommy Hafey Club Award for 2010 to Bill Meaklim, a worthy recipient of the award given his long history with both the yellow and black.

The Award recognizes the Richmond person he believes has best exemplified his golden rules, that “dedication, determination, discipline and desire will deliver your destiny”. Bill has been a Richmond supporter since 1943 and has been officially involved at Tigerland since 1973 during which time he was the club statistician for 25 years.

He was appointed the clubs historian in 1986 going on to open the club’s Museum in 1997. Bill has also been a long term member of the Former Players and Officials Association committee.

It was a delight to see someone who has put his heart and soul into Tigerland over so many years rewarded with an award that judging by his reaction he will obviously cherish for years to come!  Bill himself was rendered speechless at being the recipient of the Tommy Hafey Club Award (those who know Bill well will testify that this is a rare event in itself) however the congratulations and applause from the crowd attested to him being a worthy and popular choice!
